What was your life like before you received the COVID-19 vaccine?
I am writing on behalf of my 25 year old daughter. Prior to the Covid Vaccine, she was on her way to applying to PA School and was currently working as an ER EMT to gain patient contact hours to improve her chances of getting into PA School. She graduated the previous December with an Undergraduate Degree in BioChemistry.
Describe the symptoms and the timeline of the reaction.
On the night of 04/01/21, while at work, she had idiopathic anaphylaxis and had to be intubated. She had have physical therapy for a month to be able to walk again. Around July 2021, she was diagnosed with a “possible mass cell disorder “ by a specialist in Cincinnati. By February 2022, she had been intubated 12 times and due to her being difficult to intubate, the decision was made to place a tracheostomy. She also had to get a port placed due to being an extremely difficult IV stick. Fast forward to now, she’s been in the hospital going on 4 weeks. She has been able to only walk very short distances and has to use a wheelchair the majority of the time. She has severe pain in both of her legs and now has avascular necrosis of left femoral head and adrenal insufficiency (diagnosed by MD at Cleveland Clinic) from the large amounts of steroids that she’s been given over the last 17 months. Easter weekend of this year, she began having psychosomatic nonepileptic seizures (PNES). In May 2022, she was diagnosed with capillary leak syndrome. My daughter now has a very low quality of life for 17 months now! Because of the severe leg pain and weakness, she has to spend the majority of her time in bed. She is no longer able to drive because she has multiple episodes of PNES almost every day and also has multiple episodes of idiopathic angioedema/anaphylaxis almost every day.
Describe the solutions that helped your symptoms
She has been prescribed 50 mg of IV/IM Benadryl for throat swelling. She’s been prescribed opioids that take the edge off of the leg pain. She also participates in cognitive therapy multiple times a week (virtual).
Which solutions were not helpful?
The multiple doses of steroids that she has been given has caused more harm than help causing avascular necrosis, not to mention the SEVENTY LBS that she gained over THREE MONTHS. Multiple doses of epinephrine was also given on different occasions that only seemed to cause rebound reactions. Within her 1st three admissions to the hospital, prior to physicians running tests to rule out other medical diagnoses, they sent THREE different Psychiatrists in to see me daughter (when she had no psychiatric history)!! Each Psychiatrist came to the same conclusion that “they weren’t really sure why they were consulted in the first place”. THE LEAST HELPFUL SOLUTION OF ALL WAS THE DIFFERENT PHYSICIANS (at the same hospital) REPEATEDLY TOLD MY DAUGHTER THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH HER OR THAT SHE WAS DOING THIS TO HERSELF when her labs told a very different story. I even took her to a functional medicine doctor and they had absolutely no recommendations. The only thing they to say when going her health issues since 2021 was “Wow, that’s a lot!”
What would you like others to know?
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS AND DO NOT BE AFRAID TO ADVOCATE FOR YOURSELF! I have been an RN for 17 years, so I have a very strong medical background. Had I not been an advocate for my daughter, I do not know what kind of state that her mental health would be in because the majority of physicians would not even acknowledge that the Covid Vaccine could be responsible for her declining health! My daughter DESPERATELY needs treatment from a medical TEAM who is knowledgeable in regards to possible vaccination injury. We are willing to go wherever it takes to get her help. As a result of her having multiple ICU admissions, I was fired from my job this past December. I have been her 24hr/7day/week caregiver ever since.
